The benefits of green tea are simply astonishing, which explains why it has gained so many advocates all over the world, ranging from health gurus to scientists, to professional athletes.

It has a super low caloric content, making it the perfect drink for anybody looking to lose weight and keep it off.

Unlike many other low-calorie drinks, however, the benefits of green tea don’t stop there.

There are tons of other benefits which include reduced risk of cancer and diabetes, improved brain function, a boost to your metabolism, and many other unbelievable health perks.

Also, if you don’t like the taste of green tea, you can always supplement with some Green Tea Extract Capsules.

This is what I do. Believe it or not, I actually don’t like the taste of green tea! Suzie however, loves the stuff!

Many people aren’t actually aware of some of these awesome effects, so I’ve compiled this list of the main health benefits of green tea, which will hopefully give you an interesting read and potentially teach you a thing or two!

Right, no fluff – let’s get into it!

The Main Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green Tea Can Enhance Your Weight Loss

Green tea is very low in calories, and it’s basically considered a zero-calorie beverage. This isn’t quite true, as there are around 3-5 calories in a class of green tea, but this is still a very small number which means great things for our weight loss efforts.

It contains various different compounds which can help us lose weight, however, the primary substance is a powerful antioxidant called ECGC. Without sounding too science-ish, this is a catechin which can significantly increase your metabolism!

Compounds in Green Tea Reduce our Risk of Cancer

Green Tea

Cancer is one of the major killers in the world today, and it’s caused by rapid, abnormal cell growth.

This dangerous process is enhanced by oxidative damage, which is basically when the body produces free radicals at such a fast rate that it’s unable to detoxify itself.

Green tea contains so many amazing antioxidants, which helps our bodies greatly reduce the production of these free radicals, leading to a far smaller chance of developing various different types of cancer, including prostate and breast cancer.

It has been shown that regular consumption of green tea can reduce a male’s chance of developing prostate cancer by up to 48%, and it can reduce a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer by up to 22%.

It’s a no brainer, guys.

Green Tea Reduces our Blood Sugar Levels and Helps Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is quickly becoming an epidemic, especially in the U.S. In fact, scrap that. It’s been an epidemic for a while now.

Diabetes is a disease which affects over 380 million people worldwide, and it’s caused by the body’s inability to properly produce insulin, which leads to dangerously high levels of glucose in the blood.

This can then lead to some incredibly harmful health problems such as heart disease, stroke, or even amputation!

Green tea has been proven to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar.

In fact, a series of 7 studies involving over 286,000 people actually showed that those who drink green tea on a regular basis were actually 18% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

This leads me to my next point…

Green Tea Cuts the Likelihood of a Heart Attack or Stroke

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the world today.

The prevention of diabetes plays a positive role in the avoidance of heart disease, however, green tea has another great benefit which can help us further.

Green tea can help significantly reduce our total and LDL cholesterol (the bad stuff), which can clog up your arteries, prevent blood from moving properly through the body – resulting in high blood pressure and eventually cause heart disease or a stroke.

Weight gain is also another issue which can lead to an increase in cholesterol and blood pressure, so another great way to avoid these issues would be to follow a well thought-out training routine (you can start here if you’d like!).

Green Tea Can Help Improve Brain Function

One amazing ingredient in green tea is caffeine.

Caffeine gets quite a bad rap. The reason for this is because it’s a stimulant, and it’s the main active ingredient in coffee… and there’s a lot of it in coffee.

Green tea, however, contains a much lower dose of caffeine.

In fact, it contains just the right amount to reap all the benefits caffeine has to offer, without all the jittery side effects.

These benefits include improved brain function, reaction times and memory.

So don’t be scared of caffeine, guys – it’s good for you in low and moderate doses. Many people actually report having more stable energy levels and a higher level of productivity when they drink green tea as opposed to coffee!

Green Tea Reduces the Risk of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease

Green tea can also have lasting positive effects on your brain, right into your later years.

Alzheimer’s is the leading cause of dementia, and Parkinson’s is a disease which causes the death of neurons in the brain which produce dopamine.

A plethora of studies have shown that the catechins in green tea can actually help protect the neurons in your brain – ultimately preventing two of the most common neurodegenerative diseases in the world.

Conclusion

So those are some of the health benefits of green tea which you should bear in mind and consider when planning out your diet and supplementation regimen.

Now while there are many more benefits of green tea, these are the most significant ones which can be useful for pretty much everyone.

Green Tea ExtractIn my opinion, everyone should include a healthy intake of green tea in their diet, regardless of your fitness goals or aspirations.

It’s one of the healthiest things you can possibly do, and I would consider it mandatory for anybody who wants to take care of themselves.
