Have you ever found yourself rushed off your feet and unable to get to the gym?
You miss your workout, then one day leads to two, then to three… and before you know it, you’ve gone weeks or even months on end without doing any form of exercise whatsoever?
It can be disheartening, I know.
The good news is, there are many other useful weight loss methods out there which you can use rather than simply exercising.
Now while these tricks won’t burn as many calories as an actual workout, they certainly can help prevent you from feeling guilty on those busy days when you just can’t make it to the gym.
In this article, I’m going to give you my top 6 handy ways that you can lose weight without going to the gym.
These weight loss methods require little effort and you can implement them into your daily life immediately in order to keep your health and fitness goals on track.
So without further ado, here’s the list:
Tip #1: Work On Your Flexibility
Sometimes we simply don’t quite have the energy for an intense workout, and that’s okay. You don’t need to hit the gym every single day – you’re only human.
You should try and squeeze in some form of physical activity each and every day though, even if it’s just a gentle walk or a quick stretch.
Stretching can have tons of amazing benefits on your body… from injury prevention to blood flow, to flexibility!
But another thing you should also bear in mind is this: if you’re moving, you’re burning calories.
Everything you do burns calories. Walking burns calories, blinking burns calories… even reading this article is burning calories!
Stretching is an effective way of burning a moderate amount of calories, while actually letting your body recover and strengthen.
I actually recommend doing either a yoga routine or just a plain stretching routine every single day upon waking – it helps you begin your day with a positive intention and it really sets you up for a great day!
Remember guys, momentum is everything. Start your day as you mean to go on, and set the tone properly.

Tip #2: Replace Your Desk Chair With A Swiss Ball
This is a great way to keep your body slightly engaged while you’re working, as opposed to just slouching in your chair like many people do.
It can actually be slightly challenging at first because we’re so used to being all floppy and slumped over, but swapping your desk chair for a swiss ball for even as little as one hour a day can work wonders for your posture, spine health and overall weight loss.
You don’t want one too big or too small, so this would be a decent choice to start off with.
If it’s too uncomfortable, you can also stand up. While I appreciate this might make you look like a bit of a weirdo in the office, it works like a charm when you’re at home.
If you’re working in the evening, or even if you’re watching TV, try and remain standing up rather than sat down. Remember, your body requires energy consumption to stay standing up.
Remaining in a standing position will enhance your weight loss a damn sight more than just chilling on the couch.
Tip #3: Drink Ice Cold Water
Our bodies are constantly trying to maintain a temperature of 98.6 degrees. This doesn’t magically happen – it requires work!
Drinking ice cold water on a regular basis will cause a slight drop in our body temperature, and your body will naturally start working harder (burning more calories) in order to warm up!
Studies have shown that drinking ice cold water throughout the day can temporarily boost your metabolism by up to 50%… that is a drastic number!
You can check out this article if you’d like to learn more about the amazing benefits that drinking ice water can have for weight loss.
A couple of other ways to trigger this same mechanism would be to turn your thermostat down by a couple of degrees or to take a cold shower.
Cold showers have so many amazing benefits, which you can read more about here. Taking an ice bath or a cold shower on a regular basis is actually one of the most beneficial things you can do for your body!
Tip #4: Take The Stairs
One minute of climbing stairs burns a cool 10 calories. Now you may look at that number and think “well that’s not much” and you’d be right – but neither is one minute.
Go out of your way to take the stairs whenever you possibly can and it won’t be long until your weight loss results begin to improve considerably.
Climbing twenty flights of stairs every day would equal 1400 calories a week! If you kept that up, you’d be 20lb lighter this time next year. Suddenly 10 calories doesn’t seem like such a small number does it?
An even better option would be to go up and down the stairs more times than is necessary. Don’t just walk up to the 10th floor – walk back down, and back up again!
This isn’t something which everybody will do, but to get what you want, you have to deserve what you want.
Tip #5: Chew Some Gum
Get this! Chewing gum actually causes people to eat up to 10% less, and burn 5% more calories than people who don’t chew.
This isn’t a miracle fix, but if you couple this with some other small adjustments in your lifestyle – for example switching from 2% to 1% milk, you could easily lose half a stone in a year.
Go with a sugar-free option as it’s just that little bit healthier for you.
Tip #6: Park Further Away
How many times have you found yourself driving around a car park in order to find the best possible bay to park in?
Well, how about this – park further away and walk to the building.
If you burn 10 calories every time you walk from your car to the building, and you do this 5 times a day, this will burn 5 pounds in the next 12 months!
If you’re really serious about your weight loss, do what I do and go out of your way to find the worst parking spot, the one which is furthest away.
After all, it only takes a minute to walk to the door, doesn’t it? Once again, do you want to smash these weight loss goals or not? The choice is all yours.
And that’s it!
